Mare Of The Moon

I was on vacation and changed my mani.  Please excuse the tip wear, shoddy paint job and lousy pictures.  I did zero justice to Rainbow Honey Mare of the Moon.  It's a beautiful blue that at times looks purple (slightly duo-chrome).  MotM has a fuschia shimmer that glows and is also full of fun glitter - small and medium sized holo hexs AND half moons!  The moons were easy to get on the nail with just diping the brush in the bottle, no digging necessary.  I used 2 coats and got great coverage, no underpants needed.  It dried slightly dull so you will want to use a topcoat to get a glossy shine.

You can get Rainbow Honey here and I recommend you do.  If the others are anything like Mare of the Moon than they are all gems!!

Aloha

ALOHA!!  Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about.  Dior, I'm still new to you but you haven't let me down yet!  As you know I've been in a funk.  I haven't been liking anything I put on my nails.  Why did I wait so long to put on another Dior?  My savior.  I am feeling back to happy.

Aloha came in a set, the polish and a topcoat.  $26, that's a pretty damn cheap topcoat coming from Dior.  Aloha is perfect.  A bright true, orange - ever so slightly reddish in tone when in the shade or indoor lighting.  I would say on the Crayola scale it is Outrageous Orange.  It went on like a dream in 2 coats.  So smooth and even.  There was the slightest hint of VNL but I don't care, it's still beautiful.  I used the supplied topcoat and it dried uber fast.  And thank goodness for that because I had to change a diaper almost immediately after putting Aloha on.  I love that the bottle is also tinted to match the polish, just a fun little extra that makes me love it more.

Aloha came out summer 2011 in the Dior's Electric Tropics Collection.  There were 2 polishes, Aloha and Paradise.  I've been on the hunt for Paradise and actually had a friend find it for me!  I can't wait for it to arrive to try it on!  I'm sure it will be as amazing as Aloha.

Mahalo!

Arizona + Sashay My Way

Since I haven't been feeling rather wordy lately I will make this brief.

Zoya Arizona, a nice bright (but not neon) orange creme.  I used 2 coats but should have used 3 since I can see some streaky patches.  It was slightly thick as well, making it odd that there were some bare spots.  I still like it, it's a fun summer color and goes well with my tan.

I did a sponge glitter gradient with Orly Sashay My Way from the new Flash Glam FX.  If you want to see more of this style of glitter gradient please go visit my friend Sheila at Pointless Cafe, she has tons of beautiful gradients!  SMW is a gold holo glitter consisting of hexs and bars.  Application wasn't perfect, the glitters tended to clump together during the sponging.  After a few hours I noticed the bars were sticking up like hairs.  I do think SMW is very pretty and fun!  It would look fantastic over a dark color - maybe a forrest green or navy blue?

Ah well, guess it's time to change my polish again.

Love 'Em/Leave 'Em

I'm in a lull.  I haven't been loving my nail polish lately.  Maybe it's just my choices.  The last one was too bright.  This one is too dull.  But you tell me what you think.

Color Club Love 'Em/Leave 'Em.  It's a nude-champagne holo.  It's pretty with a light scattered holo.  LE/LE applied thickly on the first coat and I probably could have been done with that coat but I'm used to doing 2.  No dragging or other application errors.  I did use a topcoat.

While I like this color I always feel like the nudes leave my fingers/cuticles looking dirty.  Maybe it's just me.  Anywho, I did a crap job of clean up on this mani so ignore the mess.

why is my pinky hiding?

oops, ringless

Glow Stick

It's been a long while since I have put up a new post.  Ok only 4 days but it feels like forever.  This polish screams summer, night club, burn your eyes!  It's KBShimmer Glow Stick and it's insanely bright.  Now I may not be used to the neon colors because it's taken me almost all day to come around to this color.

First the bad.  I had to use 3 coats of Glow Stick.  I should have used underpants but I didn't think I'd need to.  Clearly I should layer GS over something next time - possibly Orly Glow Stick (which looks to be a perfect match)?  Because I used so many layers the polish went on thick and gloopy.  It was also slightly streaky.  With the undies the streakiness would disappear.  Some of the glitter remained gritty looking even after a thick top coat.

On to the good.  GS is stunningly bright and fun!  It's jam packed with glitter!  Micro and bar holos, silver hexs, diamonds and stars.  You can see all the glitter in each layer of polish.  I didn't had to dig to get the fun pieces - I got 3 stars and a diamond on various nails.  And the most awesome thing…GS glows in the dark.  Though I haven't tried it it doesn't surprise me because it absolutely glows in the day time too!

You can get KBShimmer here for $8.50 each.

4th of July: Red, White & Blue!

Happy 4th of July everyone!  Hope you  have a fun time with friends and family!  Enjoy the BBQs, the beach, the fireworks or whatever else you have planned!  And most of all be safe out there!

My nail polish friends and I have another group project up our sleeve and here is my contribution!  I wanted to do something extra snazzy and I think I achieved that!  When I explained to my husband what I planned to do he said, "sounds busy."  I was thinking to myself that it's pretty hard to make a mani too busy.  So I went for it.

I used the following colors: OPI Big Apple Red (2 coats, thumb and pinky base), OPI Blue My Mind (2 coats, index, middle and ring finger base), Orly Ou Champagne (accent stripes on thumb and pinky), Girly Bits Vive La Revolution (3 coats, index, ring fingers), and essence silver stars (accent on middle finger).  Topped all these layers off with a thick layer of top coat and tah-dah!  4th of July on my fingahs!

So what do you think?  Do you have on a fun 4th of July mani to celebrate our Nations 236 year of Freedom?

Funky Dunky + Holo Chrome

It's a purple day for me.  I found a couple bottles of Funky Dunky at my not-so-dusty beauty supply store the other day.  I bought one for myself and one for my sister who recently got engaged to her boyfriend Doug - whom my children have sweetly nicknamed Unky Dunky.  So how could I not pick up a bottle of Funky Dunky for her, right?!

Funky Dunky is from the OPI Shrek Forever After collection that came out as an addition to the Summer Brights in 2010.  You can find items from this collection still, but Funky Dunky seems to be the most sought after.   FD is a really beautiful grape purple creme.  FD is clean and vibrant, not overly bright.  It goes on like perfection in 2 coats.

I wanted to add something fun to Funky Dunky and chose Kleancolor Holo Chrome to accent some nails.  Holo Chrome is a really stunning dark holo that shifts from a dark blue to a deep purple.  Over Funky Dunky it stays in the purple range.  HC is jam-packed full of holo awesomeness!  I only needed 1 coat of HC.  Finished everything off with a topcoat and waited patiently for the sun to come out for picture time…
