Unicorn Sharts

Why do I think Halloween has to be all doom & gloom, dark colors?  Maybe I just like the vampiness that goes hand in hand with Halloween?  There are also fairies, princesses, unicorns, mermaids, clowns,   etc., etc.  Well I've been unfair to the happy colors in the rainbow and I will make ammends to that now.

Unicorn Sharts is another fantastic little glitter bomb created by Red Dog Designs.  Mind you this was the first round for swap packages.  Gina will now offer Unicorn Sharts in a large sized bottle and it will be called Unicorn Kisses - so pretty!  I will continue to refer to it as US (or Unicorn Sharts in this post though).  I wanted to show US over a few colors so you could see that it's a sparkly, versatile glitter topper that's fun to wear over pretty much anything! I had no application problems.  A ton of glitter came out with each brush dip, no fishing necessary.  The glitter lay flat and smoothed out well with a layer of Gelous.  Unicorn Sharts is a clear base coat with silver holo, red, pink, yellow, blue and green hexs.  There is also a lovely holo micro-glitter, not too overwhelming, just enough to look like a sprinkling of pixie dust.  I used 2 coats of Unicorn Sharts on each nail.

I layered Unicorn Sharts over the foloowing colors.  Index - 2 coats Zoya Areej.  MIddle - 2 coats OPI Funky Dunky.  Ring - 2 coats andreia 121.  Pinky - 2 coats Essie Pretty Edgy.  A coat of Gelous then a layer of topcoat and I had smooth, shiny, sparkly nails!  Perfect for the whimsical themed Halloween lovers!

You can purchase Unicorn Kisses (formerly know as Unicorn Sharts) from the Red Dog Designs store.  Keep up to date with Gina's new releases on her facebook page!

Layla Softouch Queen Burgundy (07)

Just because I adore this polish so much I am going to post a few pictures of it all by itself.  Seriously, Queen Burgundy is gorgeous.  I can't wait to try out other Layla Softouches.  I hope with all my might they are as awesome as this one was!  You can see Queen Burgundy with Sonoma Nail Art Deadly Zins in my previous post here.

Here's the quick rundown.  I used 2 coats for full opacity.  I did not use a topcoat becuase that would obscure the amazing powdery, velvety finish.  The formula was wonderful, not too thick or too thin. There were no bald spots or dragging.  The dry time was quick compared to other polishes.

Layla is available at some beauty supply stores and etailers such as Ninja Polish.  Now that part is out of the way…on to the photos!  Enjoy!

Queen Burgundy + Deadly Zins

Daily Halloween mani time!  It's late I know, but only 11:00 pm for me so I made it!  Only 6 more days of Halloween posts.  Thankfully I still have a few to use, actually just enough for the remaining days of October.  But tonight I have a combination to show you that I literally could not stop fawning over.  I am especially in love with the Layla and think it's the first polish I want a back up of.

I started with Layla Softouch Effect in 07, Queen Burgundy.  I knew immediately when I saw the display that me & Queenie were going to be BFF's.  QB is a stunning brick red with a textured look from the shimmer being muted by the matte.  The matte itself is a softer look, almost like it has a powdery finish.   I used 2 coats for full opacity and had no application issues.  No dragging, no streaking, no bald spots.  QB dried fairly quickly as well - like most mattes do

I then used Sonoma Nail Art Deadly Zins for accents.  DZ is a clear base polish chalk full of bright red hexs, red micro glitter and a smidgen of tiny black hexs.  I sponged DZ on my nails near the cuticles and used 1 coat of regular application on my ring finger nail.  I had plenty of glitter come out and it spread evenly on my nails.  I did not use Gelous or topcoat because I wanted to keep the matte look.

What do you think of the Layla and the Sonoma?  Layla's are available in some beauty supply stores or you can get them online at etailers such as Ninja Polish.  Sonoma Nail Art can be purchased on etsy and you can stay up to date by following the blog and facebook page.

Shimmer Polish Amy

Another day, another Shimmer Polish!  Today I share the lovely Amy.  So let's just delve in!

I wore 1 coat of Amy over  2 coats of Cliche Amora, a fuchsia - raspberry shimmer polish.  On ShimmyShimmer.com it's described as "pink rainbow glitter."   It is indeed a very pink glitter polish in a clear base.  Actually I see 4 colors that really stand out: pink, hot pink, blue and sliver.  Amy went on superbly; a great amount of glitter came out on the nail, it spread evenly and the glitter was dense.  I used a coat of Gelous and a layer of topcoat.

You can shop for Amy and other beautiful polishes in the etsy store.  Be sure to follow the blog Shimmer Polish and the facebook page to keep up to date on new releases and specials.  There is currently a special for 15% off your order with the code FACEBOOK - it ends on 10/28.   Shimmer Polish is also available at Overall Beauty.  Happy shopping!

Zombie Sharts

Here's a fun little Halloween polish to share….Zombie Sharts.  ZS was just a fun little polish my friend Gina put together to send friends in swap packages.  Well it really gathered quite the following.  So much so that you may see it in a certain store (Red Dog Design) under a slightly altered name (Zombie-licious).

Zombie Sharts is a pea soup green base with a ton of stuff going on inside.  Here's what I see: black, holo, light green, silvery-lavender and yellow hexs, hunter green micro-glitter and a very fine holo micro-shimmer.  And it works!  I used 2 layers of Zombie Sharts alone and had complete coverage on my nail.  I had to move some of the larger glitters around just a tad, but other than that application was easy peasy (ha, pun intended).   I used a coat of Gelous for smoothness then a layer of topcoat for shine.

Is Zombie-licious your cup of pea soup?  You can purchase it and other amazing colors (like The Engineer which I reviewed here) from Red Dog Designs facebook page or online shop.

Shimmer Polish Marilyn

Let's take a small break from the Halloween themed colors shall we?  I have a few lovely polishes to share with you from Shimmer Polish.  Once I had all the bottles unwrapped it was Marilyn that drew me in.  Marilyn was different than what I have seen swatches of from this brand and that made her stand out.  So I decided Marilyn would be the first Shimmer Polish I tried.

I realize that Shimmer Polish is primarily known for it's gorgeous glitter bombs that you layer over a base color, but Marilyn had full coverage all on her own!  And isn't she lovely?   On the etsy page Marilyn is described as a "Vampy burgundy red polish."  That's exactly the color and personality of this polish!  Very vampy, very sexy.   I had no application issues.  Marilyn went on evenly and covered fully in 2 coats with no dragging or bald spots.  I used a coat of Gelous to smooth out the glitter and then a layer of topcoat for shine.

You can shop for Marilyn and other beautiful polishes in the etsy store.

Pretty Edgy + Sincerest Pumpkin Patch

Quick review of this one because it's dinner time and my kids gotta eat, ya know?  Sorry in advance for any stray glitters or dry skin, I've been swatching alot more than normal these days to hit my goal of 31 posts for the month.

I started with Essie Pretty Edgy, which I think is a perfect green creme.  Not too dark, not too pastel - perfectly in the middle shade of green.  I used 2 coats for full coverage with zero application issues.

I then layered 1 coat of Sonoma Nail Art Sincerest Pumpkin Patch on top.  SPC is literally the sweetest name and polish I have seen.  I can't help but think of poor little Linus sitting in his pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin.  SPC is a lovely sheer green base with orange, chartreuse kelly green  and hunter green glitters.  I see hexs of different sizes and squares (which are mostly in a silvery sage green color).  Application was great - I had a large assortment and amount of glitter on the brush,  the glitter spread well, and all the majority lay nice and flat (I had one orange hex lift up a bit - but nothing I'd complain about - just letting ya know).  I topped it off with a coat of Gelous and I was ready to go to the pumpkin patch.

You can purchase Sonoma Nail Art in the etsy shop and stay up to date on the Facebook page and blog.
