Bone Daddy + Immortal

Gorgeous, gorgeous!  I am so much in love with the Halloween polishes that came out this year!  Every indie maker really knocked it out of the park.  Even China Glaze, Wet N Wild and Sinful Colors had some nice offerings for the Halloween fans.  The 2 polishes I have on today are some standouts for me!  

I'll start with the base/undies: China Glaze Immortal.  Immortal comes from the Wicked collection that was recently released.  Immortal is a gorgeous medium grey with silver micro flecks and pink and blue shimmer.   It applied smooth and easily.  I used 2 coats for my full mani, then went back and added a 3rd coat to my ring finger nails to ensure that it was fully covered.  Very beautiful and unique color in my collection.

And now CrowsToes Bone Daddy.  I love the name (nod to Nightmare Before Christmas hero Jack Skellington), I love the theme and I love the color/glitter combo.  Bone Daddy is a light grey tinged base full of white matte glitters.  They vary in size and shape - bar, hexs, micro glitter.  There is also a sparse sprinkling of a glowy royal blue glitter and some glowy yellow glitter.  The blue does show up on the nail but I did not notice the yellow.  The blue glitters have an ethereal feel about them which I think is perfectly fitted to the polish.  The grey base didn't seem to change the color of Immortal.  The glitters were quite easy to get o the nail - no fishing, no placement needed.  A plenty good assortment came out with each dip of the brush.  I used 2 coats of Immortal, followed up by a coat of Gelous and then a coat of top coat.

Savita + Halloween in the Vines

Ok, ok - I can wait no longer.  I'm going to start posting Halloween themed polishes because they are all so gorgeous and it's a day away from being October AKA Halloween Month.   I'm a self proclaimed Halloween junkie, I love everything about it!  The toys, the costumes, the decorations, the colors, the food, the candy, the horror movies, but mostly the EXCITEMENT you see all month long as kids get amped up for the big night of debauchery and wild abandon!  Candy candy candy candy candy (Garfield's Halloween reference)!

My first Halloween mani is a lovely purple combo.  I started with Zoya Savita.  Savita is a matte from their MatteVelvet Winter Collection way back from 2009.   Sadly this collection is not available anymore.  You may find Savita in a random beauty supply store (which is how I lucked across it), on ebay or a blog sale.  So I apologize for showing you another polish that is hard to get your hands on.  Savita is a gorgeous deep purple matte.  Very much a grape purple.  Most mattes dry quickly and can look ever so slightly streaky or lumpy.  Probably because they dry so fast.  Savita was no different.  But working quickly I was able to get nice application and a smooth-ish finish.  I used 2 coats for full coverage.  With a top coat Savita glows with gorgeous pink and purple shimmer - you can see it under HITV on my ring finger.  Stunning.

I used Sonoma Nail Art Halloween In The Vines as an accent nail and sponged tips over Savita.  HITV is part of a 4 polish collection that was recently put out.  The colors are all gorgeous!  Halloween In The Vines is named after the "Halloween and Vine" art show held in Petaluma, CA every year.  HITV is a clear base packed full of silver, light purple and grape hexs, small silver hexs, small black squares (I could be wrong on the shape), and fuchsia micro glitter.  The glitter came out of the bottle easily and spread nicely.  I smoothed it out with Gelous carefully applied to only the glitter tips and the accent nail.

Bad Fairy

This particular polish was a HUGE lemming for me.  I spent one day watching and bidding for it on ebay only to lose it at the last second by $0.50.  I was crushed.  So much so that one of my polish friends took pity on me and decided to send me her bottle!!!  Many of you know her personally and know what a kind and big-hearted person she is.  Before I delve into the review I want to send the biggest possible thank you to Tina for being the most generous person I know!   Tina - I still have no idea how to repay you for this RAOK but one day I will get a lightbulb and you will get surprise mail.  XO.

Now, the review.  Bad Fairy came out with the MAC Venomous Villians collection, Fall 2010.  Bad Fairy was the one polish everyone was going ape-sh*t over and I now understand the noteriety…it is GORGEOUS!!  Such a beautiful polish.  BF is an amazing color shifting duo chrome with shimmer.  I like this type of duo chrome so much more than ones like the China Glaze New Bohemians - which end up looking flat and streaky IMO.  The extra "texture" really adds something to the color shift.  Bad Fairy is a magenta polish that shifts to a raspberry red, to a coppery orange.   I wore BF on it's own and it took 3 coats for full coverage.  I probably should have used a 4th coat but didn't want to waste the polish.  The brush was the teensiest but wonky but not hard to work with.  The sheerness and brush aside I adored Bad Fairy.  It's an absolutely stunning color that I plan to rock again this Fall.

Sadly Bad Fairy is no longer available, but the other 2 polishes (Mean & Green and Formidable) from the MAC Venomous Villians collection were brought back with a place in the permanent MAC line up.  You may find a bottle on ebay but be prepared to shell out some serious squid.

Monroe

My first piCture pOlish!  I am so excited and sad at the same time.  This is Monroe.  Isn't she beautiful? The happy: I got her from a swap with my friend and fellow blogger Marnie at Nubbins-4-Nails.  The sad: for some reason piCture pOlish decided to reformulate Monroe and it looks completely different.  Still a gorgeous polish, just different.

This version of Monroe is a vampy blood red-burgundy.  It's a sheer jelly finish with holo particles.  It;s all kinds of hot.  I'm deeply in love with it.  It went on all squishy and glossy!  I used 2 coats in the pictures and no top coat.  I don't relaly know what else to tell you!  I adore it.  It was perfection, easy to wear, flattering and drop dead gorgeous.  I do think this just made my top 10 list.

Feelin' Froggy + Inner Space

2 Lynnderellas in a row…what is the world coming to?? All kidding aside, I know there were some "issues" with Lynn in the past, and that was all crazy drama.  I guess it's only fair to give second chances once in a while, right?  Plus things have settled down a bit now and you can get the polishes a bit more easily on ebay.  I'm not a fan of the price tag but I have to give her kudos when they are due….homegirl can really make a gorgeous glitter bomb.  

I decided to try out my Cult Nails Feelin' Froggy as a undies for this mani.  Feelin' Froggy came out with the Fairy Tale Collection in the beginning of the summer months.  There were couple that caught my eye from this collection, but Feelin' Froggy was my number 1 choice!  Maria's description of it is, "a muted kelley green creme who's true beauty was revealed by the kiss of a bright green shimmer."  True.  FF is a gorgeous green with such a pretty green shimmer.  It's not overly bright so that it's banned to summer months.  I think FF would be a great staple for the Spring too!  FF went on wonderfully, smooth and self leveling in 2 coats.  

Lynnderella Inner Space is a multi-glitter bomb.  It's full of fun shapes, sizes and colors.  The predominant colors IMO are black and white.  Some of the other colors I see are electric blue, yellow, kelly green, red, pink, orange, fuschia and some silvery holo.  I see bars,  small hexs, medium hexs, large hexs, extra large hexs, squares, micro glitter.  The only thing missing is the signature shimmer.  But that's what Pentimento has and I will review it later.  I used 2 coats and as you can see on my nails, I got a plentiful amount of glitter in an array of what's offered in the bottle.  No fishing which is always a good thing with these glitter bombs.

Very Pretty Vampire + Jane Eyre

The other day I showed you a-England Jane Eyre, a lovely deep, dark, blackened red.  I thought Lynnderella Very Pretty Vampire might look nice over it.  So here it is!

Very Pretty Vampire is a sheer-redish base with red, black and burgundy glitter hexs and squares.  It does have some of the signature shimmer that you find in most Lynns, but not overpowering.  VPV went on easily in 2 coats.  Plenty of glitter came out, no fishing necessary.  The burgundy and red colors in VPV really matched the lit-from within glow from Jane Eyre.   

I do believe this is the reformulated version of VPV because I don't remember the square glitters in the original version, and the color leans more black than red.  But hey, I could be totally wrong with that assesment.

I used a coat of Gelous and then a layer of topcoat for glossy shine and smoothness.  VPV is a layering polish and while I did like it over Jane Eyre I will try it again over a lighter red next time.

Jane Eyre

a-England puts out some really fantastic nail polish.  Great formula and unique colors are some of the kep ingredients to Adina's success.  She recenlty released The Gothic Beauties, a collection of dark and moody colors inspired by characters in (dark) literature.  Would it be called goth-lit?  Haha.   I ordered Jane Eyre directly from Adina, but they are available in several places now: a-England (not on the site yet, but probably soon), Llarowe, Overall Beauty, Color4Nails, Ninja Polish and Mei Mei's Signatures.
Jane Eyre is inspired by the novel of the same name by Charlotte Bronte.  Jane Eyre is a gorgeous darkened black base with a deep scarlet red shimmer that glows in the sunlight.  Indoors you see black and not much else.  JE is a perfect color for the Fall and Winter months, it makes me think of Halloween, long nights, cold weather - which in turn makes me think of cozy sweaters, warm fires, and cups of hot cider.  Can't you imagine wearing this polish while bundled up in a big-ol' knit sweater, UGGS, sitting in front of the fire?  I can!
Jany Eyre went on smooth and level in 2 coats.  No application issues or flaws.  Wonderful a-England formula as always.  I used 1 layer of topcoat to make JE smooth and glossy.
