Girly Bits 80's Girl Bands (Partial)

Good morning lovely readers!  I have some fun, bright, super awesome polishes to share with you today!  These 4 beauts are part of the Girly Bits 80's Girl Bands Collection.  I love me some 80's music and I love me some polish so it's a match made in heaven, no?  Well this 10 piece collection is full of holo, neon and glitter.  Perfect to represent the 80's!  The 80's Girl Bands Collection is currently available in several shops.  So let's jump in and take al ook at these fabulous lacquers Pam mixed up!

*PRESS SAMPLE*

Up first is Supersonic.  Supersonic is a song by JJ Fad and really, who doesn't love a girl rap group?!  Supersonic is a "neon lemon-lime jelly with golden and blue shimmer, and tiny blue flecks."  This bright in your face yellow is so awesome!  I totally love the shimmer and flecks.  Supersonic really does capture the essence of the 80's and the style. Supersonic had a fantastic formula and applied perfectly.  I used 3 thin coats for full coverage and finished with 1 layer of topcoat.

Neutron Dance, a high energy pop song by the Pointer Sisters is a "flourescent pink crelly base with neon pink, yellow and green hexes and squares, accented with silver holo sparks."  Just looking at this polish and the picture of the Pointer Sisters above and it's totally clear where Pam got her inspiration!  They were a bright and lively girl group.  Neutron Dance is also a bright and lively polish!  This is a great crelly, the glitters are suspended nicely and the base isn't too thin in comparison to the glitter.  I used 3 coats of Neutron Dance for full coverage and finished with 1 layer of topcoat to smooth things over.

Push It is a "holo base with gold, copper and gunmetal glitter plus silver and charcoal glitter, gunmetal flakes and sparks of silver and gold holo."  I'm sure you already know this one, but Push It is a song by Salt-n-Peppa, another girl rap group with lyrical verses and fun beats that make you want to move.  The polish was pretty damn amazing!  I love the scattered holo base and the silver and gold holo glitters really play in the light nicely causing quite a rainbow show.  Formula and application of Push It were both fabulous.  I used 2 coats of Push It for perfect coverage and 1 layer of topcoat.

Last I have I'm Your Venus.  This is such a perfect "copper holo, loaded with shimmer and sparks of gold."  And of course this is inspired by the song Venus by Banarama (I personally think Cruel Summer is a better song).  And oh goodness this video has some of the worst dancing, it's total comedy.  Anyways, I'm Your Venus just became my favorite copper holo ever.  The formula and application were both amazing.  I used 2 perfect coats of I'm Your Venus for full coverage and 1 layer of topcoat.

Parallax Polish: Chien-Shiung Wu, Ada Byron & Dorothy Hodgkin

Good afternoon friends!  I'm featuring a new indie on the block today - Parallax Polish!  Parallax Polish is brand that is 5-Free, almost wholly vegan (not including the red shades) and not tested on animals.  It's created by research scientist and professor at Missouri State University, Erin.  Inspired by science, numbers and research Erin came up with the Women In Science Collection.  I find it fascinating and darn cool that this line is entirely dedicated to women who have made scientific discoveries and advances in their fields.  Each 14ml bottle is $8 and there are also minis available for $3.  All are currently available in the shop.  I'll admit that this collection has me very excited to see what Erin will come up with for he next collection!  So let's jump in and see some of the Women In Science!

Up first I have Dorothy Hodgkin, a "biochemist who studied penicillin and won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry."  Dorothy Hodgkin is an "electric pink polish with red flash and red glitter."  I love that the shade reflects the penicillin that she studied.  I found that Dorothy Hodgkin leaned a bit coral, but was definitely a bright pink shade.  I found the formula nice and easy to apply.  I used 3 coats of Dorothy Hodgkin for full coverage.  I finished with 1 layer of topcoat.  *Dorothy Hodgkin is a stainer.  Be sure to use base coat and paint carefully as it will stain both your nails and the skin around your nails.*

Chien-Shiung Wu "was known for her work on the Manhattan Project and the Wu Experiment that lead to the Wolf Prize in Physics."  Chien-Shiung Wu is an "electric blue polish with holographic blue and teal glitter."  This was my favorite of the group I reviewed...it's such a pretty and bright blue!  I found Chien-Shiung Wu to be sheer on the first coat but it built up beautifully in 3 coats.  I suggest letting each layer dry completely before doing the next.  I finished with 1 layer of topcoat.

Ada Byron (aka Ada Lovelace) "was a mathematician whose work is considered the first computer program while working with Charles Babbage on his Analytical Machine."  Ada Byron is a "delicate purple polish with silver microflakies."  This color is definitely delicate and so pretty.  There is a pretty heavy helping of the microflakies and it gives Ada Byron an almost frosty finish.  The formula and application were both great, easy to work with and smooth flowing.  I used 3 coats of Ada Byron for full coverage and 1 layer of topcoat.

Glisten & Glow Love You To The Blue and Back

Good afternoon!  I've got a lovely polish to share with you now, from a brand that just started dabbling into creating colors after having such a huge success with base coat, topcoat, cuticle oil, scrubs and more!  Of course I'm talking about the ever popular Glisten & Glow!  I had the chance to meet and chat with Jill, the owner of the brand while after partying at CosmoProf.  She was such a fun and lively gal, I wish I lived closer so I could hang out with her more!  It was really awesome to see how excited she was about the color creations she had out to show us at the Sparkle & Wine event...I love when makers are as excited about polish as the wearers/buyers are.  Anyways, aside from the gorgeous blue holo that was featured in the July's A Box, Indied, she made a holo with glitter as well!  Aside from the topcoat and base coat you can also get other polish brands at the Glisten & Glow shop.  And until 9/1/14 you can use the code Cosmoprof14 to receive 10% off your order!  Let's jump on in and look at this fabulous creation!

Glisten & Glow: Shop, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter

This beauty is I Love You to the Blue and Back.  Jill describes it as a "steel blue holo with various shapes and sizes of metallic and matte blue, white, silver, navy, light blue and aqua glitters."  I love holos with glitter, they have so much going on and are so interesting to look at.  I Love You to the Blue and Back is really a beautiful polish and it definitely kept me staring at my nails to see all the different elements of the polish.  I Love You to the Blue and Back is packed full of glitter too!  I had a great glitter payoff with zero brush swirling or digging required.  The polish covered well and had a really nice formula. I only needed 2 coats for full coverage.

I also used the Stuck on Blu! base coat and HKGirl top coat - first time trying both and I was really impressed.  Stuck on Blu! is a fabulous base coat and as many of you already know HKGirl and a super shiny and long lasting topcoat.  If you haven't tried them yet now is a perfect time because you can use the coupon code!  I Love You to the Blue and Back was created in very limited supply, 30 bottles.  I'm not sure how many are left but it's still in stock and it is $10.50 a bottle.
