Color Club The Uptown

Good afternoon!  It's rainy over here so I am about to start a pot of stew and the recipe looks so good I can't wait to try it.  Nothing like the smell of garlic and onion simmering in olive oil to get everyone in the house ready for dinner.  But before I do that I just wanted to share a couple pictures of a Color Club polish I recently bought.  So let's take a little looksie!

Color Club: Website, Facebook, Instagram

This is The Uptown from the Fall 2013 Girl About Town collection.  The Uptown has a sheer purple jelly base and is loaded with color shifting flakes.  So many colors wanted to show up - red, copper, green...you can literally see a rainbow of colors in The Uptown.  But different lighting will give you differnect effects.  Also, the movement of the color shifting flakies made it hard for my camera to focus on my nails, I tried my best I promise!  Now I know from reading other posts that The Uptown builds up on it's own but I chose to wear it over a base color hoping to get the most color shift bang for my buck!  So here I have 2 coats of Barry M Indigo, a pretty blurple creme.  I layered 1 coat of The Uptown over Indigo.  The Uptown had a fabulous formula with loads of flakies coming out.  The flakies spread easily on my nails.  They did dry with a little texture, so I used 1 thick layer of topcoat to smooth them out.

FingerPaints Rock Hard Lilac

Good afternoon!  It was a crazy day for me so I just have a little post to share today.  FingerPaints is a brand I don't have many of or use that frequently, but I saw the display for the new Rock My World collection when I went to Sally's for a nail file and I was totally intrigued.  The fact that FingerPaints were BOGO helped in my decision to make a purchase.  The Rock My World collection is metallic and textured!  I was not really attracted to the recent China Glaze collection that had the same type of formula/finish, mainly because the addition to hex and bar glitters made it look kind of odd to me.  Of course that's just my opinion!  I'd never tell you not to go out and buy something you liked.

FingerPaints: Shop, Facebook

This is Rock Hard Lilac.  I kid you not it wore like a rock too!  It stuck on my nails with barely any chipping or wear for days!  Rock Hard Lilac is a metallic purple with blue undertones.  The texture had a finer grit feel than OPI Liquid Sands or Zoya Pixie Dust.  The coverage was great.  1 coat covered my nails perfectly well. But I ended up using a 2nd coat for more texture.  Formula and application were both nice and easy.  No topcoat.

HOLO WEEK: Day 7 - Ooh La Lacquer

Good morning!  We've made it to the final day - Day 7 of HOLO WEEK.  Phew that was a lot of work, but so worth it because all the holos I shared were spectacular!  I loved them all!  Today's post is another brand that is new to me and I was impressed!  Ooh La Lacquer opened in the summer of 2012 and is stocked full of gorgeous holos and glitters!  There's enough colors to make a couple double rainbows with (is this real life?).  I picked these 2 up during a recent sale.  Make sure to follow Ooh La Lacquer on Facebook and Instagram because it looks like the sales are pretty frequent!

Ooh La Lacquer: Shop, Facebook, Instagram

Up first I have the gorgeous Sacrebleu!Sacrebleu! is a sky blue linear holo with some aqua undertones.  You can really see the aqua in the close up picture.  I also love the periwinkle color that shows up in the holo flame.  Formula and application were both nice and easy.  I used 3 coats for complete coverage and no topcoat.

Lady & the Vamp is a "deep plum linear" holo.  It was released in limited stock, I believe only 10 or 15 bottles.  If you love it there are still a few available right now!  The holo was a bit weaker than in Sacrebleu! but it was still pretty.  Formula and application of Lady & the Vamp were both great.  I loved how that deep burgundy-red showed through in a couple of the pictures.  Definitely a nice vampy color!  I used 2 coats for full coverage and no topcoat.

HOLO WEEK: Day 6 - Smitten Polish

WOW, I can't believe I am at Day 6 of Holo Week already!  Looking back on my previous posts I have been drooling over all the holo goodness!  And with the amount of holos I received in the mail this week I will have to do another Holo Week again soon to show you all of those!  But today's post is one of my favorite indie brands...Smitten Polish.  I have only worn a few Smitten's in the past (the Falling Leaves Tree-O) and it was love at first sight.  So I've kind of stalked the brand since then.  Well I have more (and plan on getting even more with the next restock), so let's take a look at them!

Smitten Polish: Shop, Facebook, Instagram

This is Be Mine! and it was released as a Valentine's polish.  Look at how sweet and pretty it is!  Be Mine! is an uber bright "bubblegum pink" linear holo and it's just perfect.  The first coat was just a little sheer so I ended up using 3 layers for complete coverage.  The formula and application were both great.  No topcoat.

After I bought the Falling Leaves Tree-O this was the next one caught in my radar beam.  Electric Lime is just that!  I adore this polish.  Electric Lime is amazing and bright neon green linear holo.  Again, the first coat was sheer and I ended up using 3 layers with no topcoat.  Application and formula were both fantastic.

The First Lobster is one of the best red linear holos I have come across.  It's actually described as a "very warm orange-leaning red" holo, but it's looks more like a red with orange undertones on me.   But mostly red.  The First Lobster had fabulous coverage, I used 2 coats and no topcoat.  Formula and application were both wonderful.

And finally, What Sorcery Is This?  This is a "bright purple, cool toned" linear holo.  I love this shade of purple.  It really works for me.  What Sorcery Is This? had a formula more like Electric Lime and Be Mine!, so the first coat was sheer.  But with 3 layers I had full coverage.

HOLO WEEK: Day 5, Part 2 - Celestial Cosmetics

Good evening!  Aren't you lucky?  You get 2 holo posts today!  I received these in the mail and couldn't not include them in holo week.  They were just too gorgeous.  Celestial Cosmetics is an Australian brand, but you can purchase them at Color4Nails.  I don't even want to take up your time reading...let's just look at polish!  I will start off by saying each of these had amazing formula and application.

*PRESS SAMPLE*

Celestial Cosmetics: Color4Nails, Facebook, Instagram, Celestial Cosmetics Site

Mrs. Claus' Jugs is a holo from the A Very Merry Aussie Christmas collection.  Sure it's from the holiday line up but guess what?  This "bright green linear" holo is absolutely perfect for the spring!  It's bright and beautiful.  I had great coverage in 3 coats.  No topcoat.

Sun Kissed is a perfect color for tanned bodies and sitting out on the beach!  This bronzed orange linear holo is a real stunna and I'm totally not biased with my professed love for orange.  I used 3 coats and no topcoat for full coverage.

Noel's Nuts is another polish from the A Very Merry Aussie Christmas collection.  It's a perfect "soft blurple linear" holo.  There's a pretty noticeable pink shimmer to it that is lovely.  I think this would be an awesome, sexy date night polish!  I used 2 layers and no topcoat.

Moonlight Glow is a gorgeous pink linear holo "with a light blue undertone."  This one was almost a frosty holo - likely from the amount of shimmer in it.  I thought it was unique and pretty.  I used 3 layers but 2 would have been completely fine.  No topcoat.

Sand Dunes stole my heart.  I am a sucker for these shades and this "bright bronze/brown linear" holo is a real winner.  It's another color that will look stunning on some bronzed skin!  Thank goodness I tan and don't burn because I will be rocking this shade all summer long!  Sand Dunes also has micro holo glitters in it that really set it apart making it unique and fun.  Lots of depth and sparkling holo goodness.  I used 2 layers and no topcoat.

Finally I have Ocean Mist.  Man the colors in this collection are making me long for the summer and the beach.  This fabulous and glowy teal linear holo was amazing.  I loved the color!  I used 2 layers and no topcoat.
