Giants Fan Nails

I was at the Giants game today for my hubby's birthday.  The Giants played the Padres and won 4-1!  Woot woot!  I did some Giants colored nails to be supportive in my own crazy nail polish kind of way - orange and black.

I used 2 coats of China Glaze Riveting.  Riveting is from the Hunger Games Capitol Colours collection.  I think it's my favorite of the set, it's so bright and really sparkles in the sun.  Then I used 1 coat of OPI  Black Shatter on my middle and ring fingers.  I know shatter is kind of yesterdays news the polish world but it can still be fun for a quick way to dress up a plain manicure.  But I had to bling it up a bit to show my personality so I added 2 coats of Sally Hansen Multi-Fauceted onto of the shattered nails.  One coat of top coat and I was ready to cheer on my team!

Some pictures are at AT&T Park, others are back at home.

Old Time Movie

Holo readers!  Today was rainy and cloudy, but I still put on a new polish and got some good pictures.  I'm wearing 2 really great polishes and can't wait to show you the pictures.

Old Time Movie from 365 Days of Color is a really fun bottle of black and silver glitter shards.  It applied nicely, and there were only a few spots that felt "bumpy" after topcoat.  If I had a bottle of Gelous I bet that would have smoothed it out, but since I don't have it, 2 coats of topcoat did a good enough job for me.  I really liked how well the nail was covered with the glitter, not too dense but not too sparse.  Just the right amount.

I layered OTM over Deborah Lippmann It's Raining Men a true red creme.  I picked It's Raining Men because when I think of old time movies I think of glamourous Hollywood and the starlets in their pin curls and bright red lipstick.  So I felt red would be the perfect undies for OTM.  I used 2 coats of IRM and after the first one I had to show my husband because whoa, it is a knock out bright and shiny red!  I am not a red polish kind of person but I really really liked this!  It applied like a dream, so creamy and bright!  I used 2 coats of It's Raining Men.

The shop is currently closed, but when it re-opens you can get 365 Days of Color here.  I reviewed Summer Dream recently and you can see it here.  Deborah Lippmann is available at Nordstrom, other fine department stores , HSN, and their online store.

I decided to try the matte look that is all the rage with glitter mani's these days!  So here is Old Time Movie matte-ified.

Tropical Sun

Tropical Sun is one of the new beauties recently added to the Models Own Beetlejuice collection.  It's the first MO polish I have purchased or tried (I got the set of 6 that includes 2 from the original Beetlejuice collection, the 3 Spring/Summer colors and the 3 in 1 base/topcoat).  On with the review!

Tropical Sun is perfect for the summer.  It's a shimmer, glowy coral/pink/orange color.  Does that make sense?  No?  Ok, the base is shimmery.  It has tiny flecks of sliver micro glitter.  Like the others from Beetlejuice, it is a duo-chrome polish, meaning it flashes different colors in different light and with movement.  In some light it looks coral/orange, then flashes gold.  Sometimes I see a pink color too!

The only problems I noticed were 1. it's thin.  Even after 3 coats I can still slightly see my nail line.  2. this is the first polish I have worn that made bubbles.  I hear of bubbles forming often enough, but this is my first time actually seeing it happen.  It was so strange - like hives forming on skin.  After a layer of top coat the bubbles disappeared, except for my right thumb which got them the worst.  You can see some of the bubbles in the pictures, but in real life they are almost invisible.

Despite those 2 issues, I really like Tropical Sun and think you should give it a try!  It's absolutely perfect for summer and will look fantastic on tan skin.  Vacation to Hawaii mayhaps?  You can buy Tropical Sun on the Models Own website here

PS - You like how I used the roses in my front yard as a backdrop?  They match the nail polish!

Reclaim for my Birthday!

It's my birthday and I am wearing a polish I have talked about incessantly to my nail polish friends.  So much so that my dear friend Hazel sent me a bottle for my birthday to shut me up!  LOL.  That's not really why she sent it - she is just a sweetheart like that.  But at least there will be no more pining on my part that I don't have this one and everyone else does.

It's Nubar Reclaim.  AND I LOVE IT!!  I will go so far as to say it's my #1 (for now).  It's a linear kelly-green holo that is just absolutely stunning!  It has a gorgeous rainbow out in the sun.  In the shade it's magic is hidden, but it's still a beautiful green.   You can use a topcoat and it still works it's holo-y magic.  I used 2 coats of Reclaim and topcoat for the pictures below.

You can get Reclaim on Amazon or the Nubar website.  I highly recommend you get a bottle.  You need it, period.

Bad Kitty

Before I start I will tell you that this is a difficult polish to obtain.  Bad Kitty is highly sought after, often called a lemming, and on many a blogger girl (and guy) wish list.  Bad Kitty is a limited edition - or should I say rarely available polish made by Elixir Lacquers.  Not  until it was on my nails did I really understand the hype.  Bad Kitty is beautiful, period.

Bad Kitty is a sheer purple that flashes blue-teal shimmer.  It reminds me of the inside of an abalone shell; opalescent, shimmery, pearly colors.  It's just so damn "glowy" I wasn't able to stop staring at my nails today.  I literally wanted to pull out my camera and take pictures everywhere - stoplights, the post office, work.  I used 3 coats plus topcoat.  The nail line is still slightly visible, but in the pictures it's much more prominent.

Keep watch for Bad Kitty by Elixir Lacquers at their store or on their Facebook page.

On with the show…

Jardin Enchante

This is a quick - from my phone post. I am wearing Jardin Enchante from Karine over China Glaze Entourage. I love it. I'm so into the bright green right now. But I'm showing you this quicky post because I don't like that the layering combo takes away from the beauty of JE. It's a fantastic flakie and I think it's magic is lost over Entourage. I will try this polish again tonight on its own and show you it's true beauty.

In the meantime here is the layered combo - 2 coats of Entourage. It was easy to apply, nice thick coats that covered well. But it has a very noticeable smell. This is the only China Glaze I own that gave off such a strong chemical smell.

I used 2 coats of Jardin Enchante. It's a lime green base with lime green flakies that flash gold and turquoise.

Summer Dream

Today I have a fun and NEW polish to show you.  It's from 365 Days of Color and it's called Summer Dream.  It makes me think of two things.  The Beach Boys (it reminds me of their album covers and that beach music) and the movie Grease (the song Summer Lovin').  If I'm going down that route I can also say it makes me think of the movie Shag.  All 4 things are awesome, so that's how they are connected.  Lol.

365 Days of Color opened recently and is selling 5 mini bottles of her polish.  I got 4 out of the 5 and they are all adorable!  I will review the rest once they all arrive safely at their new home - my home.

Summer Dream is a kind of a pistachio color green base.  It's slightly milky, slightly sheer.  I normally stray away from milky bases but this one turns out to be very lovely.  It built up nicely with 3 coats and didn't have that streaky look some milky polishes have.  But I did have a couple bare patches - you will see it on my middle finger most prominently.  Maybe 4 coats would be best.  It's jam-packed full of glitter too!  Red, orange, green, white, pink, purple, yellow, blue, turquoise, you get my drift…it's a full on rainbow in there.  The glitter is many shapes and sizes as well; square, hex, micro and bar!  Woo Hoo!

You can order Summer Dreams or any of the other from the collection here.  You can see swatches through the blog links or check out the Facebook page here.

Revvvolution & Lucky Numbers

I've loved this Lynnderella for so long.  I feel like I was waiting for the perfect reason to wear it - I think that perfect reason was a trip to Vegas.  Since I'm home with 3 kids and have to adhere to a school schedule, and now have a part-time job that hasn't happened.  So I'm wearing it today just because.  Maybe I was feeling lucky today - maybe because I'm wearing it I will be lucky soon.  Either way, Lynnderella Lucky Numbers is uber gorg!

I didn't know what I was going to do with this mani - I didn't want to layer it over white because that seemed too easy, though that would be perfect for Vegas, right?  I finally decided to layer it over a grey holo.  Color Club Revvvolution to be exact.  You can still see the holo under the red shimmer in the sunlight - I think a couple pictures actually capture it well!

Lynnderella's as many of you know, are extremely difficult to get your hands on.  If you are trying I suggest you be patient.  It will happen eventually.  Lucky Numbers is from Lynnderella's holiday 2011 collection.  It's a sheer red shimmer base packed with red and black glitter pieces; bars, squares, hexs and micro.  Fun stuff in there.  The red shimmer is really beautiful, especially over the grey underwear - it really glows!  I used 2 coats of LN.

Color Club Revvvolution is a gunmetal grey scattered holo.  It's a beauty too.  I used 1 coat and got great coverage.  If I was going to wear Revvvolution alone I would have done 2 coats.

You can order Lynnderella's for $15 each from Llarowe.  She goes by a wish list system, and you can only send your list when she is open.  Follow her on Facebook and email notifications from her website to get your list submitted when she re-opens.
